BIOGRAPHY
Boris Gorelik was born in Minsk, Belarus – the birthplace
of Mark Chagall, Vasily Kandinsky, and Joseph Penn. He received
his M.F.A. in Art and Architecture from the Belarusian State Academy
where he went on to teach for the next 18 years, acquiring tenure
as a professor of art theory and history.
His paintings, drawings, and jewelry designs have been exhibited
in numerous museums in Russia, Belarus, Poland, Bulgaria, and
the Czech Republic as well as being on display at the Architectural
Societies of Minsk, Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities of
the former Soviet Union.
Since his arrival in the United States in 1992 Boris produced
a large body of contemporary art work which includes graphic displays,
illustrations, and jewelry designs. His paintings have become
part of a number of private collections in Minneapolis, Chicago,
Milwaukee, San Francisco, and New York.
The art of Boris Gorelik can be divided into two streams: philosophical
expressive compositions and decorative paintings. The first is
rooted in explorations of music and literature. The latter is
comprised of abstract compositions, showing a complete idea of
interior design and space organization through the use of color
and lines. The medium – mostly soft and oil pastels –
is distinguished by gravity and sophistication, romance, and light. |
